Obviously it is your blog and your choice. I’m just a passerby offering a passing observation. I had thought, though, that an editor would have a very stringent attitude about the precision of word use and that UK editors would be more conservative than US editors.

Uh… I beg to differ. “Nobel laureates” are not meant to be 御用, and there are poet laureates in U.S., Ireland, and other Republics. To translate it into 御用 is pretty narrow and misleading.

翻译成“桂冠诗人”确实比较简单直接，但是中文里“桂冠诗人”并无意义，翻译之后还需要再解释。“桂冠”在这里并不是荣誉称号，或是年度奖之类，而确实是个职务，虽然象征性的成份，但确实是要给皇家大事写诗的，所以我觉得翻译成“御用诗人”更接近Poet Laureate 的原意。

I’m afraid you are mistaken about the word “laureate”. It has nothing to do with 御用.
