2010年度的 Man Booker Prize 初选名单昨天公布，13部小说入选。这是5位评委从138部小说中选出。今年的初选名单中，既没有新人新作，也明显缺少几个今年出书的成名作家，比如 Martin Amis 的 The Pregnant Widow 和 Ian McEwan 的 Solar 都没被看中。
在13部小说中，澳大利亚作家 Peter Carey 的 Parrot and Oliver in America 被看作是最大热门，他是曾两次获得 Booker Prize。另一个热门是牙买加裔女作家 Andrea Levy (前作是 Small Island) 的 The Long Song。
Man Booker Prize 一直是奖励高水平的“文学小说”(litrary fiction)的奖项，今年的初选名单中，没有一部属于“类型小说”(genre novel)的。参选小说可以是当年出版的由英联邦国家作家些的英语小说，除了出版社报名外，评委也可以主动要求小说参选，今年的138本入围小说中，就有14本是评委主动要求加入的，其中的一本 Emma Donoghue 的 Room 还进入了初选名单。
今年的5人评委的主席是英国前“御用诗人”Andrew Motion。13部小说中的6部将入选提名名单，将于9月7日公布，10月12日颁奖。
